Our extra-curricular highlights
Whole-School Musical
All students within the school are involved in a whole-school musical every two years. They participate in weekly dance and drama lessons in preparation for the event.
Elective Sport
All students in Years 3-6 are involved in elective sport on a Friday. Using student voice, activities include fishing, stand up paddle boarding, BMX, dance, tennis, soccer, touch football, basketball, netball and cricket.
Trips and excursions
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world. Students in Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 are involved in a major excursion every year.
PSSA Sport
Sawtell Public School has a proud tradition in NSW PSSA Knockout competitions. Each year we perform admirably across a wide variety of sports. Parent and community involvement in these sports is appreciated. In 2026, the school will be entering teams in soccer, Rugby League, Rugby Union, AFL, tennis, basketball, netball, hockey and cricket.
Premier's Debating Challenge
Students can develop their public speaking, reasoning and teamwork skills. They have the opportunity to compete in local and state events, building confidence along the way.
Gardening Club
Students can join our dedicated community volunteers to plant, water and harvest produce in our vegetable garden. This produce is sold to families and is used at the Hilltop Store, a local business and proud supporter of the school.
Premier's Spelling Bee
The Premier's Spelling Bee is an engaging way for NSW public primary school students to expand their vocabularies and improve their spelling. Designed for Stage 2 and 3, Stage 1 students are welcome to participate.
The program includes activities that encourage students to become more confident users of language through broadening their vocabulary, and promotes improved literacy skills in conjunction with the NSW English K to 10 syllabus.
Public Speaking
Each year, our students participate in school and Bongil Bongil Public Speaking competitions, building confidence and skills in speaking in front of an audience.
